HEY LET'S TALK HOCKEY

We're So Icy Here At Foul To The Finish!

We have some Semifinals!!!  And, WCHA thinks they need to be special with a "Final Five."  Piss off, WCHA.  I'm not in the mood.  But I am in the mood to talk Canadian Icepuckstickball action!!!!!!!
WCHA Quarterfinals; St. Paul, MN -- March 15th

(6) Michigan Tech (16-18-4, 11-13-4) vs. (3) #9 Denver (23-12-4, 16-8-4)
Let's cut the crap.  At this point, no one cares about season series records.  Win, and you go on.  Lose?  Well, you're just done.  Michigan Tech is on cloud nine after going to Colorado and sweeping #18 Colorado College.  Denver pulled out a 2-1 series win over an upset minded Wisconsin team.  It's a quick turnaround from Sunday to Thursday, especially after such a physical series.  I'm taking the upset here, Tech moves on to face #3 Minnesota-Duluth

(5) St. Cloud State (17-16-5, 12-12-4) vs. (4) #12 North Dakota (22-12-4, 16-11-1)
Both teams swept their previous round opponents.  St. Cloud took down UNO, and it wasn't very pretty, while North Dakota went HAM on Bemidji State.  Not quite Minnesota HAM.... but close.  There's not a lot separating these two teams, don't let the records fool you.  I'm going to take North Dakota here off a hunch.  Hunches are good right???  They'll play #5 Minnesota if it's right.

Atlantic Hockey Semifinals; Rochester, NY -- March 16th

(4) Mercyhurst (20-15-4, 15-8-4) vs. (1) #19 Air Force (19-10-7, 15-6-6)
This is a one bid league and these teams are going to give everything they have to make it in.  Mercyhurst is coming off a 2-1 series win over Holy Cross, while Air Force went 3 games with Connecticut.  I have to take the one seed here, although in a one game series... anything can, and will, happen.

(3) Rochester Tech (20-14-4, 15-18-4) vs. (2) Niagara (17-10-9, 14-6-7)
Niagara made a statement by sweeping a Robert Morris team that was on the upswing.  RIT ended up getting taken to 3 games before pulling out a win over Bentley.  In a one game format, I'm going to take the fresher skates.  Niagara moves on.

CCHA Semifinals; Detroit, MI -- March 16th

(11) Bowling Green State (14-23-5, 5-19-4) vs. (2) #4 Michigan (23-11-4, 15-9-4)
Holy mother of God.  BGSU cleans up by beating #2 Ferris State.  Call it what you want, but that is an announcement that you are here to play!  Michigan just wrapped up sweeping #17 Notre Dame in their Quarterfinal.  So who do you go with... a team with all the confidence after a MAJOR upset?  Or the team that's been consistent all year?  I prefer consistency, it's a safe choice.  So let's go with BOWLING GREEN.  MACtion, Ice Hockey style!

(4) #11 Miami (23-13-2, 15-11-2) vs. (3) #16 Western Michigan (18-13-6, 14-10-4)
This is probably going to be the best game on Friday, period.  Well, at least that doesn't involve basketball.  Both teams coming off of sweeps of ranked teams, Miami took down #15 Michigan State, and WMU took out #20 Lake Superior State.  I like the youth and energy that WMU is bringing in, so I'll take the Broncos.

ECAC Semifinals; Atlantic City, NJ -- March 16

(4) Colgate (19-15-3, 11-10-1) vs. (1) #8 Union (22-7-7, 14-4-4)
The more I look at this match up, the more I worry about Union.  Colgate is coming off an emotional survival match up with Quinnipiac, while Union is on cruise control after sweeping RPI.  I really, really like Colgate here.  However, I'm going to split the series with my gut and take Union.  We'll see who's right after this weekend.

(3) Harvard (12-9-11, 8-5-9) vs. (2) #13 Cornell (17-7-7, 12-4-6)
I put Harvard on blast last week and called for them to be upset by Yale.  Didn't happen.  I look dumb.  So let's put them on blast again.  NO WAY they beat Cornell.   I have Cornell as a dark horse team in the tournament (if they make it).  So let's go Big Red.

Hockey East Semifinals; Boston, MA -- March 16

(7) Providence (14-19-4, 10-14-3) vs. (1) #1 Boston College (27-10-1, 19-7-1)
This is just out of hand.  Providence took down #7 UMass-Lowell in the Quarterfinals.  That wasn't suppose to happen at all.  And they outplayed them all series.  This should be interesting to see if they have people's attention or not, because if BC sleeps on them it's over.  We'll go with BC to advance though... just too much firepower and excellent defense.

(4) #10 Maine (22-12-3, 15-10-2) vs. (3) #6 Boston University (23-13-1, 17-9-1)
As you know, here at Foul To The Finish, we love our Black Bears.  They took care of business and beat #14 Merrimack.  Boston U went three games with a tough UNH squad.  I think that since there's no way to be objective, we'll just pick homer style.  MAINE!  BLACK BEARS!  RAWR!
