We're going to break the NCAA Tournament Region by Region. We're going to break it into small, digestible pieces for y'all too. Ain't I nice???? We're looking at the Midwest Region to help YOU pick by
(1) North Carolina Tarheels (29-5, 14-2 ACC)
vs. (16) Winner of Lamar vs. Vermont
Robby: Yeah, no matter what happens in the play in game, UNC is moving on. So let's not waste valuable time, shall we?
(8) Creighton Blue Jays (28-5, 14-4 MVC)
vs. (9) Alabama Crimson Tide (21-11, 9-7 SEC)
Robby: As good as Creighton is offensively, and they are GOOD, Alabama's got the athletes to completely disrupt them. All of the advantages that the Blue Jays hold over other teams are negated by Alabama's defense. I'm very worried about Creighton's chances, and feel they were the most screwed by seeding.
PICK: (9) Alabama
(5) Temple Owls (24-7, 13-3 A-10)
vs. (12) Winner of Cal/South Florida
Robby: You know, I don't like this Temple team. I'm not high on them. They are very vulnerable, and overrated. I think that both of the play in teams are very capable of beating the Owls. This is also the game that VCU came out of to make their Final Four run...
PICK: (12) Play in Winner
(4) Michigan Wolverines (24-9, 13-5 Big Ten)
vs. (13) Ohio Bobcats (27-7, 11-5 MAC)
Robby: Yes, this is that same Ohio team for the most part. I feel like Michigan is a team that doesn't have any real flashy stars, but they are a complete team. They are going to be good for at least the Sweet 16. Now, I haven't gotten any opportunities to watch Ohio play, but I'm fairly confident in this Wolverine team.
PICK: (4) Michigan
(6) San Diego State Aztecs (26-7, 10-4 MWC)
vs. (11) North Carolina State Wolfpack (22-12, 9-7 ACC)
Robby: I know I've been preaching about how good the Mountain West is this year. However, they got some awful draws. This NC State team is hungry and playing as well as anyone is right now. I'd take them in this game 99/100 times. SDSU just hasn't done enough to convince me that they are on the level everyone else thinks they're on.
PICK: (11) North Carolina State
(3) Georgetown Hoyas (23-8, 12-6 Big East)
vs. (14) Belmont Bruins (27-7, 16-2 Atlantic Sun)
Robby: Perhaps you forgot about how everyone loved Belmont in November. The Duke game, the Memphis game. Guess what. Fluke. Don't buy into all the B.S. hype ESPN is giving them. Go with the Hoyas, they won't let you down this year.
PICK: (3) Georgetown
(7) St. Mary's Gaels (27-5, 14-2 WCC)
vs. (10) Purdue Boilermakers (21-12, 10-8 Big Ten)
Robby: The only good pairing in this part of the bracket. Should be a classic game. Robbie Hummel finally gets his shot to play in the tournament, and unfortunately it's going to end badly for him. Let's hope his ligaments make it out alive.
PICK: (7) St. Mary's
(2) Kansas Jayhawks (27-6, 16-2 Big XII)
vs. (15) Detroit Titans (22-13, 11-7 Horizon)
Robby: Detroit surprised a lot of people by taking out Valparaiso in the Horizon League final. Not me. The Titans are peaking at the right now, while the Jayhawks looked a little worn down against Baylor. I'd still stick with the Jayhawks here, but they need to watch out against St. Mary's.
PICK: (2) Kansas
